set your off-season PROGRAMMING on autopilot

No strength coach? No problem. Let us help.

(For high school, college and travel programs)

The biggest benefit for me, without access to a strength coach, was that it provided much more structure than I ever could have provided. The level of detail in this program is incredible. It has changed the way I look at our off-season, and it has changed the way our guys train. I would recommend this to any college, high school or travel coach who does not have access to a designated S&C coach...it is the best investment you could make.

The Biggest Challenges for Coaches

While some schools can recruit their way to wins, most coaches are simply forced to face the reality that player development is the primary angle to a competitive advantage.

Still, I understand it’s not necessarily that easy. Here are some of the biggest challenges college and travel coaches face, that we address with our team programming:

  • Challenge #1: Resources. Most don’t have large budgets, a strength coach (with a track record of development), or the time to sift through hundreds of PubMed articles.
  • Challenge #2: Practice time. Due to practice constraints, strength and conditioning is often forced to happen outside of practice, with less oversight.
  • Challenge #3: No structured plan. Without a dedicated strength coach, you do your best to throw together a team lifting plan, but you know that half of the players either don't follow it, or use improper form.
  • Challenge #4: No system for tracking progress. This allows players to coast by or fall through the cracks – unacceptable if progress across the board is the goal.
  • Challenge #5: Off-field habits. You can't control what athletes are doing off the field – nutrition, sleep and more all affect performance.

Maximize Your Resources

There’s no easy way around a small budget. We understand this, which is why we have a number of team training options for the smallest-budget high schools or colleges, to more in depth options for fully funded travel organizations like the Ontario Blue Jays.

Easy to Implement Training Protocols

With limited practice time, lifting often gets pushed to the side. With detailed instructional videos and easy to follow weekly and monthly tracking sheets, you’ll be able to monitor your athletes' numbers and know that they are informed on how to perform each movement drill or exercise safely and effectively.

Analyze and Track Athlete Progress

Athletes will hit plateaus – this is an inevitable part of the training process – but it wastes valuable time the longer it takes to identify these plateaus. We built out our programming so that you can track and identify – at a glance – which athletes are stalling out so that nobody slips through the cracks.

Structure, Detailed and Baseball-Specific

No more winging your team lifting or bodybuilder-style workouts that may do more harm than good. A detailed training and throwing plan that takes the performance demands of pitchers and position players into careful consideration.

Nutrition, Sleep and Recovery Protocols

From the nitty gritty details of calorie cycling, to dozens of recipe videos broken down by body composition goal, to detailed handouts for your team, we’ve got the “why” and the “how” covered. We will also help you set up systems of accountability to ensure your players actually follow the plan.

Two athletes we've coached – both threw 94 but required different training approaches. Our programming takes these differences into account.

Specific Programs by Position and Level

Our team programming has separate “tracks” to further individualize the training – with both pitcher and position player specific options, as well as basic and advanced variations, segment your players into the track that fits them best.

"Tread Athletics has done an outstanding job with our program, coordinating our strength and conditioning program, nutritional needs, all logs, and more. His knowledge has helped our players to take huge jumps this fall in many areas. Our players love the training packets and that they are updated and calculated to help them max out on the field. Ben’s availability to me as a coach is priceless. "

What's Possible with Athlete Buy-In

Here's the secret to implementing any plan with success: buy-in.

You can’t lift the fork to a guy’s mouth to make him eat. You can’t force a guy to go to bed before midnight. You can’t account for the athletes who decide to party hard on weekends and show up under-recovered.

Here's what happens when you do it right:

My freshman year of college, there were 8 or 9 of the 15 incoming freshmen who set the goal of gaining 20 pounds in the fall. Every single one of us hit that goal. The level of buy-in was high, because everyone received a no-BS lecture on the importance of nutrition, sleep, recovery and strength gains as they directly related to achieving our team goals. This was the “why.” Next, because we were each given a concrete goal of how many calories to hit, how that fit into our unique class schedule, and we were taken through the dining halls to understand what foods to eat and what not to eat, the implementation aspect was crystal clear. This was the “how.”

Don’t just expect all of your athletes to connect the dots on their own. You must first educate on the “why,” and then you provide a clear framework for the “how” to get there. That's what this programming will take care of. All you need now is an athlete who cares – and while some athletes are just going to intrinsically care once they understand these things, you’ll get the rest of the team to care reciprocally – by showing that you care about and are willing to invest in them.

Think about any coach who guys are willing to run through a wall for – that coach didn’t just get lucky and stumble upon a group of psychos. You cultivate that by investing into each individual guy.

When my college team saw our coaching staff pouring their lives into making us better, it became blatantly obvious that they cared, and our buy-in was through the roof. We pushed each other inside and outside of practice, in large part because of the information, tools and energy we had been given from the coaches.

As effective as our programming is (check out the story below) – this is the final link, and it's something we spend significant time discussing with our coaches and teams.

Upgrading your approach to player development

What if you could spend more time and energy away from designing strength and throwing plans, and allocate it towards implementation, running practices, recruiting and building player relationships, knowing that the strength and physical preparation was fully covered? What if every skinny pitcher gained 20 lbs? If every position player hit balls 20 feet further or shaved a couple tenths off of their 60 times?

Strength is a game changer – but achieving it requires a well-devised plan of attack. Ignore nutrition, and progress will be limited. Ignore mobility and on-field transfer will suffer. Ignore proper technique and injuries will surface. The devil is in the details, and the details are where we come in.

I cannot recommend Ben's work enough. His meticulous attention to detail was reflected in his own history of training, going from a scrawny high school pitcher to ultimately drafted by the Chicago White Sox.
