Hi, I'm
Ben Brewster

Co-founder of TreadAthletics, pro pitcher and author of Building the 95 MPH Body.

Over 750,000 baseball players, coaches and parents follow and read our material across the internet to learn how to improve velocity, understand pitching mechanics and data, add muscle mass, optimize mobility and take advantage of our baseball training and educational resources.

We take a different approach to coaching than most baseball "gurus"

We care about building a relationship with you as much as we do about getting you to your dream – not cranking you through a process that treats you as a number.

We give away 98% of our information for free – a decision that costs us thousands per month. Our goal is to make this higher quality than anyone else’s paid stuff.

We’re honest about who is and isn’t a good fit for our services and we refuse to make empty guarantees like other companies to sell training programs.

Tread has simplified the process for me, making it easier to understand and focus on the areas I need to improve. The personalized assessment helped identify my strengths and weaknesses, and they developed a tailored program to keep me healthy, strong, and in the right positions during my delivery. I raised my average velocity nearly 2 mph, touching 100+ mph for the first time, upgraded my arsenal (adding a sinker, cutter & sweeper) and had my best season to date. In an industry where some athletes might feel hesitant to share their struggles with their coaches, Tread offers a supportive environment where I know they have my best interests at heart. Their commitment to helping me overcome challenges is one of the biggest reasons I love Tread Athletics.

From a dorm room to the top online baseball training and coaching resource in the country

This website and company started as a blog back in 2013 while I was studying Exercise Science and pitching as a walk-on at the University of Maryland. As I desperately searched for ways to improve, chasing down a shot at the MLB draft, I began to realize that while there was a lot of baseball info out there, most of it fell flat in one of two ways: it lacked an evidence based rationale, or it was coming from coaches or individuals who had never actually applied or tested their theories in real-life.

But first, let me show you where I came from.

On the left is me in high school, where just one year prior I struggled to hit 73 miles-per-hour weighing 155 lbs. My goal of pitching in college seemed like a pipe dream at times. On the right is a 97 mile per hour fastball on flat ground (and here's footage of me sitting 96-98 in bullpens).

But how did I get there? How did the player on the left go from completely un-recruited out of high school (seriously – I didn't get a single offer) to walking on to an ACC school and ultimately being drafted in the 15th round?

I could lie – tell you about the one magic pill or throwing drill that made all the difference; but while there are lots of tricks that I've learned, the truth is as simple as this:

I failed. A lot.

As I learned from my mistakes, my body slowly transformed. Here is some of what I realized along the way:

  • Few coaches understand how to deal with hardgainers, like myself, who really struggle to gain weight.
  • There is no such thing as perfect pitching mechanics – yet most coaches use the same drills and teaches for everyone.
  • Most athletes are willing to work hard, they just don't have a clear plan to follow that takes the uncertainty out of the equation.

As I began documenting my process and progress online, coaches, parents and athletes started reaching out, looking to apply the same approach to their players.

This marked the birth of Tread Athletics.

Since that point we have been putting our training methods to the test and getting results with thousands of baseball players from high school to professional.

What started as an ambitious idea in a college dorm room has grown to 50+ employees and counting, impacting players at the highest level of the game.

I've also written the book: Building the 95 MPH Body, which has sold thousands of copies to everyone from parents, to college players, to MLB pitching coaches.

While my own playing career has been defined by injuries (including 2 elbow & 3 hip surgeries), these personal struggles give me a crystal clear perspective that this company isn't just about building superior athletes – it's about fighting towards a shared dream; whether that means making your high school team, landing a college scholarship, signing a pro contract or debuting in the big leagues at age 22.

Why our system works

One of the early adopters of our online coaching was Rob Friedman, although he's better known these days as PitchingNinja.

Rob was a high school pitching coach who had tested all of the major programs in the country with his son, Jack. While many of these programs had excellent information, he explained that none of them organized every piece of the puzzle.

Some programs focused on lifting, but not throwing. Others focused on mechanics, but ignored nutrition, and still others addressed athleticism and movement, but lacked mentorship and guidance.

Rob wasn't looking to piecemeal a plan together from a half dozen programs – he was looking for everything under one roof. Furthermore, he wanted the ongoing guidance to actually implement the plan and troubleshoot plateaus – something he knew Jack wouldn't get from 3-day boot camps and clinics.

Jack's story became one of the most viewed posts our our website, as he shot up from 76 to 95 miles-per-hour over the next 3 years.

Check out what Rob had to say:

Tread's training and nutritional insight has set Jack up for a lifetime of taking training and eating seriously - he now understands the work he needs to put in to improve.

We give away 98% of our content for free. Material that many have told us we should be charging for.

Below, you'll find several options to get started, depending on if you are:

  • A parent trying to help your son throw harder and stay healthy.
  • A pro pitcher or free agent trying to get yourself over the velocity hump.
  • A high school pitcher just trying to land a scholarship to play in college.
  • A college pitcher looking to hear your name called on draft day.
  • A position player trying to improve his arm strength, power and 60 time.
"I went from 84-88 to 89-92 touching 94 mph. This got me into the top 200 in the draft. If you're looking for a quick easy fix, then this isn't the program for you."

As a college coach, I consistently recruit Tread clients because being a Tread client sheds light into the makeup of a player and shows they are driven and self sufficient. Process oriented velocity development is Tread's bread and butter.

I knew that in order to achieve my goals as a pitcher, I would need to change the way I trained. I've gone from 225 lbs to 195, and from sitting 85-87 to now touching 96 mph
